We provide technology through strategic partnership agreements with energy suppliers and traders. We also provide fully funded, turnkey energy storage solutions designed to reduce energy bills, generate new income streams and enhance energy security.  Our technology is architected to deliver global solutions and is already tested and commercially proven in the highly deregulated UK energy market.

What you’ll get to do

We are currently looking to hire an Operations Research and Data Science Lead.

Origami Energy are forming a small team of highly analytical, intellectually adventurous and commercially curious people responsible for shaping and demonstrating techniques which maximise the value Origami can create and share. These market-leading techniques will be central to our technology platform and will inform our business strategy.

Origami is developing a scalable technology platform which will manage and maximise the value of thousands of flexible distributed power assets. The platform will derive its core capabilities from effective data engineering, machine learning, design and deployment of optimisation algorithms. The candidate will be able to shape the direction of the platform and effectively collaborate with and influence the internal teams.

The candidate will bring the relevant experience from operations research and data science in the electricity industry.

What we’re looking for

  • MSc or PhD in one or more of the following: Maths, Physics, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Operational Research
  • Demonstrated Operations Research experience – design and deployment of deterministic and stochastic optimisation algorithms and systems in the electricity industry. Such experience around smart grids and distributed energy resources is strongly preferred.
  • Strong academic record (publications, contributions to the relevant societies) around Operations Research.
  • At least five years’ experience in data science – programmatically dealing with large and “messy” data; exploratory analysis and visualization; training, testing and deploying machine learning models.
  • Proficiency in Python programming language beyond the standard data science related coding in Jupiter’s notebooks – the candidate should be capable of designing, implementing, testing and deploying production level software for data science needs.
  • Experience with the Python libraries to interface with commercially available optimisation solver engines.
  • Familiarity with software engineering best practices and collaborative tools; experience in source / version control systems such as git.
  • Knowledge of relational database systems; experience in schema design and management of relational databases with Python’s relevant libraries. Experience of NoSQL databases is a plus.
