Demand Turn Up

The need

At times of high volatility, National Grid needs additional flexible generation and demand to balance the system and avoid power outages. Demand Turn Up is a service that will pay flexibility providers to increase their electricity consumption when requested at times where there is excess renewable electricity being supplied into the national network.

What’s in it for you:

  • Gain a new revenue stream by participating
  • Ability to opt out whenever you wish
  • Can be used alongside other services to maximise both energy savings and earning potential

More information about Demand Turn Up

Demand Turn Up is a service to encourage large energy users and embedded generators to either increase demand (through shifting consumption) or reduce generation when there is excess energy on the system – typically overnight and weekend afternoons.

Who can join?

Demand Turn Up is open to any technology that has the flexibility to increase demand (through shifting, not wasting unnecessarily) or reduce generation during times of high renewable output and low demand. Such flexibility providers might include water pumping stations, some manufacturing loads, cold storage and space cooling.
